Pre-Festival Event: Philip Pullman
Dublin Writers Festival is honoured to co-present a special pre-festival event with His Dark Materials author Philip Pullman, who will be reading and discussing his latest work: The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ.
In this magical yet subversive retelling of the life of Jesus, Philip Pullman offers a radical new take on the myths and the mysteries of the Gospel truth. Part novel, part history, part fairy tale, this provocative book promises to ignite an afternoon of intriguing discussion.

Sneak Preview: Ian McEwan & Stewart Brand
The headline event sees British novelist Ian McEwan join American ecologist and futurist, Stewart Brand, to discuss how literature and science can influence the future of the planet.Ian McEwan’s new satirical novel, Solar, discusses the threat of global warming through the eyes of a Nobel prize-winning physicist, whose final chance to save his career could also save the planet. Stewart Brand steps outside ideology with his new book, Whole Earth Discipline: An Ecopragmatist Manifesto to present an argument for saving the world through scientific pragmatism.
At this important Dublin Writers Festival event, these influential writers join forces for the first time to publicly address global environmental issues.
