Four Weeks until Dublin Writers Festival 2010

The opening night of Dublin Writers Festival is only four weeks away. This year, we're celebrating Ireland's rich cultural heritage with a bi-lingual literary voyage into the beauty and power of words. Through poetry, song and storytelling, we're bringing you inspiration, big ideas and laughter in an explosive week of literary celebration - and we can't wait to see you there.

Tickets are on sale now. For more information on how to book your tickets, visit http://www.dublinwritersfestival.com/festival-2010/booking-venues.

Opening Night: Ian McEwan & Stewart Brand

Can literature and science combine forces to save our planet?

Expect big ideas and thought-provoking discussion as multi-award-winning novelist Ian McEwan discusses his new satirical novel, Solar, with 1960's counter-culture icon Stewart Brand.

Shortlisted for The Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize for Comic Fiction, Solar is a compelling yet comical look at the dilemmas one man faces as he tries to save himself, as well as the planet. Taking a less ideological approach, Brand's latest book, Whole Earth Discipline argues that it's time to take action against our global crisis with science-led pragmatism.

Join McEwan and Brand as they team up for the first time to open Dublin Writers Festival with some cool-headed thinking on the global warming debate.

Pre-Festival Event: Philip Pullman

Dublin Writers Festival is honoured to co-present a special pre-festival event with His Dark Materials author Philip Pullman, who will be reading and discussing his latest work: The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ.

In this magical yet subversive retelling of the life of Jesus, Philip Pullman offers a radical new take on the myths and the mysteries of the Gospel truth. Part novel, part history, part fairy tale, this provocative book promises to ignite an afternoon of intriguing discussion.

Stewart Brand steps outside ideology with his new book, Whole Earth Discipline: An Ecopragmatist Manifesto to present an argument for saving the world through scientific pragmatism.

At this important Dublin Writers Festival event, these influential writers join forces for the first time to publicly address global environmental issues.
