All families face trials and tribulations. But how can you be prepared for events beyond your field of vision? And when crisis looms, can you be confident that you have steered the right course – no matter how instinctual or counterintuitive?

For William Fiennes – best-selling author of The Snow Geese – childhood was an English idyll: a moated family castle replete with exotic house guests. Yet in the shadows, a more intimate drama was unfolding. William's older brother Richard was diagnosed with debilitating epilepsy. Radiating wit, yet also the victim of dark and violent moods, Richard was a powerful presence, until his untimely death. A tender meditation on home and memory, The Music Room captures a child's wide-eyed wonder and an adult’s grief.
