Although the first speaking event at the Festival doesn’t begin until 7.30pm on Monday 23, we’re delighted to be hosting the Sky Arts Den from Saturday morning, May 21.
Music is playing a major element in the Sky Arts Den, located in Filmbase, Temple Bar, with very different performers taking to the stage, all for a busy-schedule pleasing 25 minutes each.

Little Green Cars – appearing every day, various times.
Adam Little, Stevie Appleby, Faye O’Rourke, Donagh Seaver O’Leary, Dylan Lynch are Little Green Cars, a young independent sextet from Dublin with two albums under their belt. You’ll find them on Facebook here and MySpace here. This video is from The Ruby Sessions.
Nigel Mooney Duo – Jazz & Blues – appearing every day, various times.
Nigel Mooney is widely regarded as Ireland’s leading jazz singer and guitarist. A charismatic figure on the Dublin jazz and blues scenes since the early 1980′s, his Gripewater Blues Band spearheaded the blues movement in Ireland and drew many fans of both jazz and the blues.
A self-taught musician, Mooney was influenced by the blues from an early age and his hard-bop style of guitar playing is expressive and melodic with a bluesy groove. He possesses a warm and rich tenor voice and has an almost flawless sense of pitch.
Nyle Wolfe – Baritone Opera / Contemporary – Monday to Weds, various times
Nyle Wolfe trained as a singer at the Cork School of Music and the Leinster school of Music & Drama Dublin. He graduated from The Royal Academy of Music London with the conservatory‘s highest academic award and won a scholarship to complete his studies at the Zurich Opera House.
He has performed various leading lyric baritone roles in operas, as well as a leading parts in musicals and operettas. Although he is first and foremost a classical opera singer, he has sung and recorded in many differing musical styles.
Opera Playhouse – comedic opera. Saturday and Sunday.
Karl Daymond (Baritone) and Pippa Longworth (Mezzo Soprano) are two experienced professional opera singers who have performed all over the world. They have devised their own shows that can be performed in theatres, homes, gardens, village halls as well as on the stage of The Smallest Opera House In The World!

Tionscadal na hAislinge / The Aisling Project – Tuesday 24 May, 8PM, The Sugar Club – €10/€8
IMRAM and Dublin Writers Festival stage a major reading in which leading Irish language poets Paddy Bushe, Gearóid Mac Lochlainn and Dairena Ní Chinnéide perform newly composed poems in the aislingform addressing the current state of Ireland. These will be performed with specially composed live music by acclaimed composer and multi-instrumentalist Seán Mac Erlaine, and on-screen projections by artist Margaret Lonergan.
Orpheus Sings: The Rilke Project – Friday 27 May, 6.30PM, Goethe Institut – €10/€8
IMRAM and Dublin Writers Festival — in conjunction with the Goethe Institute and Poetry Ireland — are proud to stage a tri-lingual celebration of work of Rainer Maria Rilke (1875–1926), widely seen as the greatest poet in the German language since Goethe.
Peter Jankowski will read the original German texts. Celia de Fréine will read her own Irish language versions of Rilke, along with selections from Máire Mhac an tSaoi’s translations of Duino Elegies and Valentin Iremonger’s translation of The Life of Mary.
Eva Bourke will read her new English versions of Rilke, including selections from his earlier work and from New Poems. The poets will read to musical accompaniment from harpist Cormac de Barra, and artist Margaret Lonergan will create on-screen projections of photos and art celebrating Rilke’s life.
